Que no te engañen las imágenes, no estas viendo un Shelby Daytona Coupe, aunque visualmente sean completamente idénticos. Debo confesar que tienen mucho en común, pero no son el mismo coche, uno de ellos, el Shelby, se fabricó en la década de los 60 y tenía un enorme V8 alimentado por carburadores, el otro es nuestro protagonista, se llama Renovo Coupé y ni siquiera se fabrica aún. Además, cuando lo haga cambiará el V8 de carburadores, por un motor eléctrico capaz de entregar más de 500 cv, exactamente, 507 caballos.
Renovo Motor Inc, es una empresa americana afincada en Silicon Valley, quienes quieren ocupar un nicho de mercado que aún no tiene mucho tirón, pero que según avanzan los días, parece que va ganado interés. Ese nicho es el de los deportivos con motor eléctrico, donde la movilidad “emisiones cero” y la deportividad no tengan que estar reñidas.
Para ello, han decidido recurrir a una imagen que evoque grandes recuerdo y emociones en las mentes norteamericanas, y que mejor manera que parecerse a uno de los coches yankees más míticos del mundo: el Shelby Daytona coupe. Realmente, su nombre es Shebly Cobra Daytona y se fabricaron unicamente seis unidades entre 1964 y 1965 para competir en el Campeonato del Mundo GT, el cual terminó ganado.
Es evidente que dicha victoria lo convirtió automáticamente en un icono del automovilismo americano y una multitud de empresas especializadas comenzaron a crear sus respectivas réplicas e incluso, sin cortarse lo más mínimo, a copiar directamente el coche. De entre todas esas empresas hay una que destaca por encima de todos, Superformance, quien creo su réplica usando los planos auténticos del modelo de los 60, consiguiendo un producto tan fiel, que consiguió el reconocimiento de Shelby pudiendo lucir el logo de la cobra y asistir a los eventos que organiza la marca.

Es justo ese modelo, el llamado Shelby Daytona CSX 9000, el usado como base de partida para el Renovo Coupe. Renovo Motors Inc. encarga a Superformance chasis y carrocería completos para después instalarle una mecánica eléctrica de diseño propio, que se alimenta de una batería de iones de litio que se coloca en el chasis en tres bloques que ayudan a mejorar el reparto de pesos.
Han sido cuatro años de trabajo y desarrollo para lograr 507 cv, un par de nada menos que 1.354 Nm y una autonomía de 160 km, pudiendo cargar las baterías en unas cinco horas en una toma doméstica, o bien, en solo 30 minutos con un sistema de carga rápida.
Las prestaciones no están mal para ser un modelo eléctrico. El Renovo Coupé puede acelerar de 0 a 60 millas por hora (96 km/h) en solo 3,4 segundos y la velocidad máxima es algo más de 200 km/h. Muy limitada si tenemos en cuenta la potencia, pero muy en línea con lo que se viene ofreciendo en el segmento.
Ha sido presentado en el concurso de elegancia de Pebble Beach, ya se aceptan pedidos y las primeras unidades se comenzarán a montar en 2015, aunque no se sabe aun cuantas unidades se fabricarán, todo depende del éxito del coche aunque se rumores que tienen en mente 100 coches.
