Prueba Ford Ranger 2.2 Duratorq

Pues ya veis, dando saltos por los montes madrileños que ando liado. Y como seguro que hay alguno que se acuerda que quien ésto escribe es ‘anti SUV’, aclarar que no es un SUV, ni muchísimo menos. Está más cerca de un todo terreno que de un SUV, pero eso vamos a dejarlo para más adelante.

Esta generación del Ford Ranger no lleva mucho en el mercado, se presentó en 2012 y rompía completamente con la anterior generación. Es el primer pick up en conseguir cinco estrellas EuroNCAP y con sus 5,35 metros de longitud, también es el pick up más largo del mercado. Al menos en Europa. Cuenta con el galardón del ‘Pick Up Internacional del Año 2013’ y es evidente, que tiene en el punto de mira al líder casi indiscutible del segmento, el Volkswagen Amarok.

La unidad probada, es el Ford Ranger 2.2 Duratorq de 150 cv, cambio manual de seis marchas, transmisión total conectable y acabado Limited.

Diseño exterior

Los pick up nacieron para satisfacer las necesidades de los habitantes de zonas rurales, quienes requerían un coche robusto, que pudiera circular por los caminos de tierra de las fincas sin mayores problemas con toda la carga posible y además, tenían que durar casi eternamente. Si miras el Ford Ranger que me dejaron la gente de GP Aunosa, nunca pensarías que se trata de un aparato que está catalogado como ‘industrial’ o ‘comercial’.

Estéticamente, cuando lo ves por primera vez, impresiona por su tamaño. Pero cuanto más lo miras, más te entra por lo ojos. A mi personalmente me encanta. El Ford Ranger es grande, bastante para lo que estilamos en Europa, pues en Estados Unidos, el Chevrolet Colorado está considerado como una ‘camioneta pequeña’ y llega hasta los 5,715 milímetros de longitud…

Si te no te gusta que te miren, no es tu coche porque llamas la atención allí donde vas. El tamaño, los cromados y el echo de ser un pick up te convierten en un centro de atención en semáforos, pasos de cebra y demás lugares donde es necesario detenerse por unos instantes. Y desde luego, está claro que trabajar, el Ford Ranger no trabaja mucho, al menos la versión que a mi me han dejado.

Cuenta con el acabado Limited, el más lujoso y el que más destinado a rodar por asfalto está. De serie, todo lo que se aprecia en las fotos. Calandra delantera, espejos, tiradores de las puertas, estribos y barra en la zona de carga cubiertos de brillante cromo. Las llantas son de 17 pulgadas y claramente diseñadas pensando en rodar por carretera y la doble cabina, única disponible junto a la ‘SuperCab’ potencian esa imagen de coche para asfalto.

La bañera (o zona de carga, como más guste) está completamente recubierta por un material que no he sabido si realmente es metal o un plástico muy conseguido, pues al tacto engaña muchísimo y el sonido no dice nada. Cuenta con algunos ganchos e incluso toma de corriente, pero ojo, mucho ojo al abrir la portezuela porque pesa una barbaridad. Cuando la abrí por primera vez, completamente confiado, se me fue totalmente de las manos y si no ando atento, me hubiera golpeado en la cadera porque es justo a la altura que queda la zona de carga abierta, a la altura de la cintura y yo mido 1,75 metros ‘clavaos’.

Diseño interior

Abrimos la puerta y escalamos, literalmente, al interior. Normal cuando tenemos una altura al suelo de 22,9 centímetros. Los estribos, lejos de ser un mero atrezo, ayudan en la tarea de auparse para poder entrar. Probé a entrar sin apoyarme en ellos, y creerme que es mejor usarlos.

Una vez dentro, el Ford Ranger sorprende por un buen aspecto, aunque su diseño no sea el más imaginativo del mundo. Aquí se nota que si se ha buscado robustez y sencillez de uso, no como en su exterior. No es feo, a mi me gusta, pero es muy sencillo. No obstante, el aspecto de los materiales es muy bueno, pero su tacto es duro, no tiene plásticos engomados. No es malo, para nada, en un vehículo pensado para salir fuera del asfalto, donde los materiales sufren bastante más, es lógico que se sacrifique algo de calidad percibida y al tacto, en favor de mayor durabilidad y robustez.

Por otro lado, los ajustes son lo que te esperas. Son buenos, prácticamente como si fuera un turismo, pero en ciertas zonas se notaba que no eran de una calidad especialmente alta, como por ejemplo en la zona del selector del cambio y del freno de mano, cuyas piezas permiten que entre una tarjeta de crédito por las juntas sin hacer ningún esfuerzo (hay fotos). El centro de la consola, con un plástico de aspecto metálico también es de una calidad que podría ser más alta.

El Ford Ranger que podéis ver en las fotos, dispone de asientos de piel, que nuevamente te comunican que no está pensado para ir a trabajar, sino que prefiere irse de vacaciones a la playa o hacer alguna escapadita al monte que hay al lado de casa. La regulación es eléctrica para conductor y manual para el acompañante. También contaba con navegador, así como volante y pomo del selector del cambio forrados en cuero y de buen tacto. Lástima que el volante no tenga regulación en profundidad.

La cabina es grande y hay sitio de sobra. Atrás tampoco falta pero el respaldo del asiento está demasiado recto, muy vertical y los reposacabezas quedan un poco lejos.

Conclusión

Si tengo que resumirlo todo es que la primera impresión, puramente estética, es muy buena. El Ranger tiene una planta alucinante tanto por su tamaño, como por el color elegido y el contraste con los cromados (los americanos son unos expertos), el interior, a pesar de pequeñísimas pegas, está bien resuelto y en definitiva, el coche entra por lo ojos. Creerme si os digo que las fotos no le hacen justicia.
