‘Este desafío consolida la posición del Civic Type-R como referente del segmento de vehículos compactos de tracción delantera. Con el apoyo de nuestras estrellas del mundo de la competición de turismos, hemos conseguido testificar que el equipo que concibió y diseñó este vehículo creó el coche de carreras definitivo para circular por carretera.’
Así de exultante se muestra Philip Ross, vicepresidente senior de Honda Europa tras dar a conocer los tiempos marcados con el Civic Type-R en otros cinco circuitos emblemáticos europeos. Un movimiento que nos ha sorprendido a unos cuantos, que estábamos esperando una rabieta de Honda por perder el título de tracción delantera más rápido en Nürburgring.
La verdad es que yo sigo viéndolo como una rabieta, Honda dijo en su día que el récord de los tracción delantera en el Ring era suyo y que haría lo necesario para conservarlo, pero esto que acaban de anunciar ha sido una sorpresa y además, lo pone todo mucho más interesante, en caso de que el resto de fabricantes entren en la guerra que los japoneses pretenden montar.
Pero vayamos hacia atrás en el tiempo para ir viendo como ha ocurrido todo, pero sin entrar en detalles, sólo un mero resumen para ponernos al día. En el mes de marzo de 2014, SEAT anunciaba que el León Cupra R habría batido el récord de los tracción delantera en Nürburgring, una alegría que nos llevamos los simpatizantes de la marca que duró poco, pues algo después, en el mes de junio, Renault bajo el eslogan de #Under8 volvió a coronarse con el Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R como el dueño y señor del récord de los tracción delantera.
SEAT no quiso entrar en la lucha, ya había demostrado lo que quería y ‘dejaba’ que Renault disfrutara de su apreciado triunfo en una guerra, no olvidemos, que comenzó la propia Renault con el Mégane R26.R hace varios años, ¿os acordáis de ese coche? Creo que se merece un apartado para él solo a modo de homenaje. La que sí entró en la batalla y como un elefante en una cacharrería fue Honda con el Civic Type-R en marzo de 2015 publicando además un vídeo que dio mucho que hablar al estar empalmado al final.
No vamos a darle importancia a ese hecho, el tema es que las cosas se pusieron interesantes con las mencionadas declaraciones de Honda que vinieron tiempo después, unas declaraciones que a muchos nos vinieron a la cabeza cuando Volkswagen, a quien nadie esperaba, se presentó con su Golf GTi Clubsport S de 310 CV en el Infierno Verde y se adjudicaba el título para los tracción delantera. ¿Reaccionaria Honda como dijo que haría?
Pues sí, ha reaccionado pero no como todos esperábamos, sino batiendo el récord para los tracción delantera en cinco circuitos diferentes de la geografía europea en un claro desafío a sus rivales, sólo falta por ver si alguno de ellos entra al trapo o se queda todo en agua de borrajas. Personalmente estoy deseando que alguno se dé por aludido y comience un festival de ‘piques’ entre fabricantes que nos amenicen lo que queda de año.
Si lo pensamos bien, es una locura bastante seria todo lo que está pasando, con unos récords que no tienen ninguna validez, sin reglas que los rijan y con los fabricantes tomándose la libertad de interpretar las ‘normas’ para estas marcas. Cada uno lo hace como le viene en gana y sin tener en cuenta si su rival lo hizo con una edición especial, con neumáticos deportivos, con un piloto de carreras o con uno de desarrollo…
Honda jura y perjura que estos cinco nuevos récords se han marcado con un coche de estricta serie, el mismo que todo el mundo puede comprar en las tiendas, pero con los pilotos de la marca que corren en el mundial de turismo y en el británico de turismos. Os dejo la tabla de tiempos justo debajo y os hago una pregunta. ¿Veremos a los fabricantes responder a Honda o esto se quedará como una anécdota?
