Los híbridos hace años que dejaron de ser una novedad. Son un tipo de coches que están perfectamente implantados en la sociedad, donde Toyota tiene el reinado absoluto y donde casi todas las marcas hacen sus pinitos, pero que desde luego tienen unas ventas casi marginales exceptuando el caso de Toyota o Lexus.
Pues bien, parece ser que Hyundai estaría pensando en lanzar un competidor directo del Prius, el cual está en fase de pruebas, usando la base del i30 en las mulas de pruebas. Se han visto así hasta cuatro coches con diferentes modificaciones en su carrocería, dejando entrever que no es un modelo de producción, pero que tampoco es una nueva generación o lavado de cara, ya que los faros o paragolpes no están ocultos.
Pero las fotos nos demuestran que estaría más cercano a competir con el Auris HSD, ya que ambos serían compactos del segmento C. Sin embargo, el Prius también pertenece al segmento C. En algunas de las mulas se ven modificaciones en las puertas traseras que las otras no tienen, la altura de las suspensiones también varía en los distintos prototipos.
Del interior también hay fotografías, que muestran multitud de cables siempre presentes entre ordenadores en las mulas de pruebas. El guardapolvos de la palanca del cambio automático, por ejemplo, brilla por su ausencia. El paquete de baterías se encuentran bajo los asientos traseros, y el hecho de que la tapa del depósito de combustible vaya tapada podría hacernos pensar en un híbrido enchufable incluso.
El la mecánica del modelo de producción final podría parecerse a la del prototipo que encabeza el artículo, el Hyundai Blue-Will Concept de 2010. Éste montaba un motor tetracilíndrico de 1.6 litros de 152 caballos, y un motor eléctrico de 100 kW.
