El Hyundai i20 ya nos mostró su cara tímidamente este verano, pero no ha sido hasta el Salón de París cuando hemos podido conocerlo en todo su esplendor, con todo lujo de detalles, tanto a nivel estético como a nivel técnico.
Esta generación ha sido especialmente diseñada pensando en Europa y en los gustos de los europeos, por eso ha sido diseñada en el viejo continente, concretamente en el Centro Europeo de Diseño de Hyundai Motor, en Rüsselheim, Alemania. Gracias a estos atributos, vemos un interior de alta calidad, un buen arsenal de tecnologías y elementos de confort bajo un diseño limpio y refinado, justo coincidiendo con nuestros gustos, y la verdad que les ha salido un producto aparentemente redondo, dispuesto a luchar de tú a tú con superventas como el Renault Clio o el SEAT Ibiza.
Nada tiene que ver este nuevo Hyundai i20 con su abuelo del que deriva, el Getz de 2002. A nuestros concesionarios llegará en breve, tan pronto como noviembre, que será el mes en el que esté a la venta.
Es más largo, bajo y ancho que el i20 de anterior generación, inspirado en el lenguaje de diseño Fluidic Sculpture de Hyundai, donde la rejilla hexagonal preside en el morro, fundiéndose con los faros y el contorno de las luces diurnas LED. Gracias a los 45 mm extra entre ejes, los ocupantes traseros gozan de mayor espacio para las piernas, y que cinco personas puedan viajar con relativa comodidad atrás. El maletero cuenta con una capacidad de 326 litros.
Las inserciones en negro piano se las podían haber ahorrado, pues a pesar de lo bonitas que quedan, son un imán para las huellas, el polvo y se arañan fácilmente, así que un acabado en aluminio habría sido mucho más acertado, si lo miramos desde el lado práctico.
Al i20 llegan extras que normalmente vemos en coches de más alta gama, como los sensores de aparcamiento traseros y delanteros, el volante calefactado, asistente de arranque en cuesta o desempañado automático de los cristales. El techo panorámico además se puede combinar con un techo solar que se abatirá al completo hacia atrás dará una mayor sensación de amplitud.
También tendremos motores Kappa de gasolina y U-II diesel. Ambos han sido probados en el i20 de anterior generación, pero ahora cumplen con la norma Euro 6. El Kappa 1.0 T-GDI llegará en 2015 como nuevo motor de gasolina turbo adaptado al downsizing. Éste entregará 120 caballos y 172 Nm de par máximo.

Como todos los fabricantes, Hyundai no ha sido menos y han querido poner a prueba a este i20 en las condiciones climáticas más extremas, llegando a trabajar a 2500 metros de altitud o en temperaturas de más de 40 ºC y menos de -35 ºC. Para demostrar su fiabilidad vendrá con una garantía de cinco años sin límite de kilómetros.
Aunque Hyundai no da valores de peso en báscula, aseguran que es uno de los más ligeros de su clase gracias al uso de una nueva plataforma. Será construido en la planta de Hyundai de Turquía, quedando así como un auténtico Hyundai europeo.
