Sin duda alguna, uno de los vehículos que está consiguiendo que Jaguar vuelva a ser esa marca que le ha hecho ganarse un lugar de mérito en la historia de la automoción es el F-Type. Pues bien, el laureado coupé británico se ha puesto hoy de largo en el Salón del Automóvil de Los Ángeles dándonos a conocer una serie de novedades entre las que destaca una nueva variante de tracción total del que Jaguar ya nos dejó a principios de mes un pequeño aperitivo de lo que es capaz de hacer.
Pero la incorporación de una variante de tracción total no es la única novedad que Jaguar tiene reservada para el F-Type. La segunda sorpresa es la incorporación de una caja de cambios manual que hará las delicias de aquellos que piensan que los hombres de verdad usan tres pedales. No olvidemos, que hasta ahora, el Jaguar F-Type solamente estaba disponible con un cambio automático de ocho relaciones denominado Quickshift, así que esta opción de poder elegir un cambio manual se nos antoja perfecta para cubrir todos los gustos del mercado.
Y como guinda al pastel, llegará la versión convertible con más picante de la gama: el F-Type R Convertible.
¿Por qué la tracción total?
Sin duda, la existencia de una versión con tracción total, que se denominará Jaguar F-Type AWD ha sido tema de controversia, así que vamos a tratar de averiguar el motivo de tal decisión.
En primer lugar, cabe destacar que dicha configuración solamente estará disponible para las versiones más potentes del F-Type; es decir, los modelos con motor V6 de 380 cv y V8 de 550 cv, tanto con carrocerías Coupé y Convertible, y siempre que esté asociado al cambio automático.
Y en segundo lugar, la tracción total también supone un incremento en el peso del vehículo (sobre unos 80 kilogramos), por lo que las prestaciones no se verán incrementadas.
¿Que se gana entonces? Pues lo que todo tracción integral suele ofrecer: un mayor control del vehículo en condiciones extremas y una mayor facilidad de manejo. Además, para no perder la esencia de todo propulsión trasera, esta tracción total del F-Type no será de actuación permanente. Traduciendo, que en condiciones normales toda la potencia se transmitirá al eje trasero, y sólo en aquellos casos que la situación lo requiera, el reparto de par se traspasará al tren delantero para corregir la situación.
La incorporación de un cambio manual
Esta es, sin dudarlo, una de las novedades que más han alegrado a más de uno, incluido un servidor. Lo cierto, es que si lees todas las pruebas del Jaguar F-Type, casi todos sus probadores coinciden en que la caja automática de 8 relaciones va como la seda, destacando además su gran capacidad de adaptarse a las exigencias de su conductor.
Sin embargo, hay quienes pensamos que ninguna caja automática tiene ese aura especial que transmite todo cambio manual, y se agradece que Jaguar piense en los que tenemos esta filosofía. El inconveniente, es que la caja de cambios manual sólo estará disponible para aquellas versiones equipadas con los motores V6, bien con 340 o bien con 380 cv.
Jaguar F-Type R Convertible, máxima potencia a cielo descubierto
Por último, Jaguar también ha oído las súplicas de quienes quieren gozar de una potencia sin límites sintiendo el viento en su cara, y a anunciado la llegada de la versión descapotable del Jaguar F-Type. Al igual que su hermano de techo duro, el Jaguar F-Type R Convertible esconderá bajo el capó un brutal V8 sobrealimentado que rinde una potencia de 550 cv, lo que le permita alcanzar una velocidad máxima de 300 km/h y acelerar de 0 a 100 km/h en 4,2 segundos.
Evidentemente, podrá adquirirse con la configuración AWD o bien como tracción trasera, y vendrá a sustituir al actual Jaguar F-Type Convertible V8 S, con 495 cv.
