El día que tanto esperábamos por fin ha llegado. Después de meses de rumores y adelantos, Mazda presenta uno de sus coches más reputados, casi una leyenda nipona, me refiero pues al MX-5. Ha sido esta madrugada en Barcelona, Japón y EE.UU donde se ha presentado en sociedad simultáneamente.
Estamos ya ante la cuarta generación del roadster por excelencia, que por fin sigue el lenguaje de diseño KODO. Llegará a Europa a lo largo de 2015, sin una fecha concreta de comercialización.
Este coche presumía de ser un modelo muy divertido y ligero; pues bien, en esta generación todavía lo han adelgazado bastante más, declarando 100 kg menos en la báscula respecto al modelo anterior. Para ello, se han empleado múltiples paneles exteriores en aluminio, además de aceros de alta resistencia para el chasis.
Su trasera recuerda vagamente al concept del RX-8 mezclado con el Jaguar F-Type. Así se pone a la altura de su abuelo, el MX-5 de 1989, pero ahora con más tecnología y seguridad a cuestas. Esto al centro de gravedad más bajo de todos los MX-5, consigue una mejor capacidad de respuesta y agilidad.
Como era de esperar, este nuevo Mazda MX-5 incorpora la tecnología SKYACTIV en sus motores. Se trata del primer coche de tracción trasera del chasis SKYACTIV, además de llevar nuevos propulsores de gasolina SKYACTIV G. Por desgracia, Mazda no ha dado más detalles técnicos, así que nos toca esperar un tiempo para conocer cómo serán estos motores.
Podríamos estar ante el ya conocido SKYACTIV de gasolina atmosférico de 2 litros de 165 caballos, o bien un bloque de origen Fiat turboalimentado, ya que compartirán plataforma con el grupo italiano. Sin embargo, me extrañaría mucho que Mazda decidiera no recurrir a sus propias mecánicas para un coche tan pura sangre como este.
