Algo está pasando en Mercedes, no cabe la menor duda. Y no es solo un eslogan, es la verdad. La firma de la estrella nunca a sacado a la luz coches como los actuales, cuyos diseños han dejado de ser los del “coche del abuelo” y ahora es posible ver a gente joven a sus mandos, algo que era terreno de BMW.
Y si no te lo crees mira el Mercedes CLA o los nuevos Clase E. Mira incluso lo que te voy a contar ahora, porque parece que en Mercedes se han vuelto locos. No lo digo por el tamaño de su coupe de máximo lujo y opulencia como es el Clase S Coupe, ni por su tecnología, sino por lo que esconde bajo el capó.
El Mercedes S65 AMg Coupe es la máxima expresion del modelo, y la máxima expresión de lujo y refinamiento dentro de Mercedes-AMG. No hay nada por encima de este modelo dentro de Mercedes, y prácticamente nada que pueda ponerse a su nivel en el mercado, ni por lujo, ni por tecnología.
Estéticamente a penas se diferencia del Mercedes S63 AMG presentado hace no mucho, aunque si te fijas, hay cosas que los distinguen. La carrocería tiene más cromados, el difusor trasero se ha pintado de negro brillante y las pinzas de los frenos son de color amarillo y no rojo, como en el caso del S63 AMG. Además, las llantas son específicas, fabricadas con aleación de aluminio y cuentan con 20 pulgadas.
Tecnológicamente es apabullante. Si pusiera la lista de todo lo que lleva, acabaríais aburridos de leer, pero si podemos destacar algunas cosas que a mi personalmente, me gustan bastante, como la suspensión “Magic Body Control” con el sistema “Road Surface Scan” y la función de inclinación en curvas. Resumiendo, se trata de una suspensión que se adapta a la carretera según los datos del navegador y de la cámara que lleva instalada para “leer” la carretera, que además, se inclina hacia el interior de la curva para contrarrestar un poco las inercias y permitir un paso de curva más rápido y cómodo. Para un coche que ronda las dos toneladas de peso, es lo mejor que puedes equipar en este apartado.
También hay que destacar la dirección asistida con desmultiplicación variable, que hace mucho más fácil circular por ciudad al tener que girar menos el volante, o bien, la batería de iones de litio que ayuda a rebajar el peso en algo más de 20 kg, que tampoco le viene mal.
Pero si tenemos que destacar algo, eso es la mecánica. Bajo el capó delantero encontramos un V12 de 5.980 centímetros cúbicos, asistidos por dos turbos, cárter de aluminio, cigüeñal forjado de aleación de acero, sistema de arranque y parada e intercooler aire-agua con circuito de baja temperatura. Todo dispuesto para entregar nada menos que 629 cv entre 4.800 y 5.400 rpm, junto con una cifra de par completamente disparatada de 1.000 Nm entre 2.300 y 4.300 rpm.
Así no es de extrañar que esta mole con forma de coupe se ponga a 100 km/h desde parado en 4,1 segundos y que llegue a los 250 km/h limitados con total facilidad. No me extrañaría que flirteara con los 300 km/h sin el limitador.
Mercedes asegura que gracias a su cambio automático AMG Speedshift Plus de siete relaciones, al sistema de arranque y parada y a su aerodinámica, el coche solo consume 11,9 litros a los 100 km de media, emitiendo 279 gramos de CO2 por kilómetro. Son cifras altas, pero la cilindrada y las prestaciones del motor son de respeto.
Ya se admiten pedidos del Mercedes S65 AMG Coupe, pero no se entregaran hasta septiembre. Eso si, mediante pagode 244.009, 50 euros en Alemania, con impuestos.
