Hace aproximadamente un mes, os adelantamos que Volkswagen estaba considerando convertir a su popular modelo Beetle en una marca secundaria para llevar a su máximo exponente el tan famoso “culo veo, culo quiero” y sacar a la luz múltiples variantes del mismo como ya han hecho con el Mini, o Fiat con el Fiat 500.
Pues bien, parece ser que la primera criatura de este proyecto será el Beetle Dune, un modelo Crossover que deriva del Beetle convencional y que ya conocimos en el último Salón del Automóvil de Detroit, teniendo tanto éxito que la marca alemana ha decidido llevarlo a producción a partir del año 2016.
Las diferencias respecto al Beetle son bien apreciables en el exterior, con una suspensión más elevada, llantas y neumáticos para uso mixto y paragolpes específicos, e inserciones de plásticos negros en los pasos de ruedas entre otros elementos. Sin embargo, no contará con tracción a las cuatro ruedas.
En cuanto a las motorizaciones disponibles, cabe destacar que estará disponible el motor turbo de 210 caballos que alojaba el concept de Detroit, pero también se ampliará la gama para abarcar todos los gustos y exigencias, por lo que no es de extrañar que también esté disponible con el motor diésel 1.6 TDI y el gasolina 1.2 TSI, ambos con 105 caballos.
Como os hemos dicho al principio, el Beetle Dune será el primero de una serie de modelos fruto de una nueva estrategia comercial de la marca bávara, pero no será el único, ya que también se espera una versión basada en el la furgoneta Kombi o incluso una versión radical inspirada en el mítico modelo Karmann Ghia.
Sólo el tiempo dirá si dicha estrategia es acertada, o no, aunque parece ser que Volkswagen ya se ha anotado un tanto con la expectación que está generando con esta decisión.
