Si ayer Audi nos presentaba el Audi A7 h-tron quattro, los de Wolfsburgo no han querido quedarse atrás, y también han querido mostrar sus tecnologías de propulsión híbrida con célula de combustible de hidrógeno dentro del grupo VAG. De hecho, es cuanto menos curiosa que en la foto que encabeza el artículo aparece un Audi A7 aparcado de fondo.
Al contrario que los de Ingolstadt, Volkswagen ha presentado dos modelos en vez de uno: el Golf Variant HyMotion y el Passat HyMotion. Parece que la propulsión por hidrógeno está siendo la estrella en el Salón de Los Ángeles. En París por ejemplo, no vimos ni rastro de coches de hidrógeno. Y parece que esta tecnología está pisando más fuerte que nunca, y parece ser que por fin será viable lanzar la pila de hidrógeno a la calle.
Mientras que sabemos que el Toyota Mirai se pondrá a la venta el año que viene, de Audi o Volkswagen no tenemos noticias, y solo conocemos estos prototipos sin fecha en el calendario para su inicio de producción. Todos comparten la tecnología del sistema de propulsión, tanto el Audi como los Volkswagen, aunque el primero tiene una potencia bastante superior.
Se trata de una pila de células de combustible y tanques de hidrógeno de fibra de carbono, que funcionan codo a codo con un sistema eléctrico enchufable de baterías de iones de litio que alimentan un motor eléctrico. A diferencia del Audi A7 —que tiene tracción total quattro—, el Golf y el Passat solo tienen un motor que mueve las ruedas delanteras.
La potencia total del conjunto es de 136 caballos, que catapultan al Golf Variant HyMotion de 0 a 100 km/h en 10,0 segundos. Los cuatro tanques de hidrógeno son capaces de almacenar este gas a una presión de 700 bares, y pueden ser rellenados en tan solo tres minutos, dándonos así una autonomía de 500 kilómetros.
Los componentes del sistema de propulsión están alojados en el capó delantero, mientras que la batería se sitúa entre las suspensiones traseras, y los tanques en el suelo del vehículo. Esta utilización máxima del espacio disponible ha sido posible gracias a las posibilidades que ofrece la plataforma modular MQB del grupo VAG.
En el caso del Golf se han aprovechado muchos componentes de su variante eléctrica, el e-Golf. La pila de combustible sustituye lo que sería el motor de combustión de un coche convencional. También encontramos el sistema de refrigeración ,un convertidor trifásico que regula la corriente del motor eléctrico.
